This is a compensated post written by me on behalf of Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.

Years ago I was prescribed this new allergy medicine for my hives. The problem was that my insurance didn’t cover the cost and it was over 5.00 a pill. Being a single mom of 3 at the time, I couldn’t afford a 150.00 prescription.

PharmacistToday, I can not only get my favorite allergy medication OTC, I can get the store brand for soooo much cheaper! This makes one happy mama when we take up to 5 a day in my household today.

I was very happy to recieve a sample of Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness Products Wal-Zyr a few weeks ago. It has stood up to the brand name medication, and my allergies! I couldn’t be more happy with this product for myself and my familly, and especially that its less expensive for me to buy without a prescription than wiith one.

120x30_WalgrensTransparentLogoWhat do you think about store brand medications? For almost everything we can, we opt for the OTC store brand, and find that almost everything works just as well as a prescription or brand name.

Sick of Eating Out

I really love eating good food. I also love going out to eat. The problem lately is that those two things just don’t go together.

Recently my husband decided that after eating at a big name, sit down place for lunch and neither of us enjoying it very well, he would take me to a well known grill,  locally.

So this local place has people flocking to it daily. Or at least that’s the feel that we both got from Facebook. Guess what? When we walked in, there were exactly 2 other patrons in the whole place.

The atmosphere was odd to say the least. Everything seemed to be like walking into a pine box. The floor, walls and tables were all the same exact wood and color. Oh and the bar was the same. Separate rooms had us a bit ovewhelmed to where things like the salad bar and restroom could be. We took a table near the door we entered.

My husband ordered grilled chicken with peppers and onions with fries and a salad from the salad bar, I ordered chicken nachos. We both chose our favorite drink, sweat tea.

After 30 minutes of waiting for a refill on our drinks, not being able to find the salad bar and listening to the employees squeel (along with a lot of bad language) in delight over who knows what, the owner brought our food.

She first asked who had the salad…well neither of us had a salad. I explained that I had chicken nachos and my husband had grilled chicken. I was very underwhelmed when she sat my husbands plate down.

On my  husbands plate was 4 grilled chicken tenderloins, with a few strips of bell pepper and onions, and a heap of crinkle fries.  The taste was a bit of a Mexican spice, but not really enough to identify  more about anything on his plate. The fries were….plain. This was served for what I remember as being around 12.99.

My “nachos” were served, after we discovered some red tortilla chips underneath the salad the owner was holding. A huge bed of roughly (hugely) cut romaine was topping a handfull of wonderful tortilla chips. This was all topped by jalepeno slices from a jar, aproximat4ly a taqblespoon of finely grated cheddar cheese, rings of fresh onion, oversized diced tomatoes, and a large diced (the pieces were large, not the portion of chicken) Mexican/Italian seasoned chicken. On the side were 2 plastic cups of bottled salsa and 2 cups of sour cream. Both with plastic tops…as in they grabbed them out of the fridge already prepared.

I kept trying to pick out the seasoning on the chicken, and it was so overwhelmed with thyme that the other spices were more of a blackened seasoning taste.

When I eat nachos, I expect 3 things:

  1. Mexican seasoned meat (usually beef or chicken)
  2. Cheese in large proportions (preferably melted)
  3. Chips topped with #1 and #2

Well I guess that in a way I did get #3, if you don’t count the salad that was in between the chips and the nacho toppings.

I don’t want you to think that I’m crazy, and don’t like anything that’s different. This is far from the truth. What I do like is getting what I order. I love fresh salsa, I love the whole “Mexican Experience” when it comes to food. What I didn’t get was any type of experience that was positive.

Oh and the tea. Don’t let me forget about the tea. When you make tea, you must wash your containers very well first. I know that sounds like a given, but if you don’t you will have at least a faint taste of “sour” tea. Most places don’t have a problem with this, however this “GRILL” did. It was gross…it didn’t matter a lot, we didn’t get refills anyways.

I have been told that there are new owners taking this grill over. Lets please pray that they can take this place to a new level with their food and entertainment. There’s a lot of need for both, if done correctly in our area. And if you have any questions on making good grilled chicken or nachos, please don’t hesitate to contact me! lol Its really not all that hard, promise.

Growing up

My little girl is growing up. There are only a few weeks left in 3rd grade for my youngest child. It makes those “BLOND” hairs in my head really mean something.

This is my child with spunk. She’s shy with my mother in law but can still beat up her brothers, at the same time. ( at ages 11 and 13 those boys don’t have a chance even when combining forces)

2 weeks ago before spring break, she had 2 map tests on the USA. She came home with a 96 on both tests! I was so nervous for her, but she learned those states faster than I ever could have, and I was an “A” student. Kayla struggles with a lot, or she has up until now. It seems that things are turning around.

This week she’s learning long division. wow! I think in another day or two, it will be something she enjoys. I love watching her eyes light up when she learns something new, when it really clicks.

My baby girl is my heart. She tells me things that the boys would never share. Makeup and nails, flip-flops and dresses. We have so many things in common now, and each day it seems that we find a little more.

Oh how my little girl makes my heart pitter-patter!

I would like to take Polka Spot Farm into a new direction. I hate that I’ve lost my personality over the last year or two.

Most people get into blogging for one of two reasons:

  1. Share their life with family and friends
  2. Making money

When I started blogging, it was really neither one of these things. It was more or less just to get things off my chest. I didn’t think anyone was reading, so I was more open about things that I don’t share at all now.

One day I realized that people make money on their blogs. I thought that was pretty cool, and having nearly always (as an adult) needed extra money I thought it would be a great way to help my family.

I haven’t been blogging a lot, because I don’t enjoy what I was doing. My bi-monthly ‘column’ that’s being sponsored by EdenFantasys will continue…I like it. Actually I’ve always enjoyed talking to my girlfriends about sex.

So even though I may take a sponsorship from someone, or sell ads for my sidebar, I will be keeping my blog free of things that I don’t think you will enjoy reading about.

So other than my sex posts, you can look forward to some book reviews. I’m addicted to my iPad and iPhone and their apps. You’ll hear more about those..and yeah I’ll include affiliate links.

So what would you like to hear about from me?

My iPad ate my WordPress Post

So my new laptop is useless at the moment, and the WordPress app on my iPad lost my last post. I’m not happy. I can’t type on this laptop of my husbands. Its not fun. #thatisall

Creating Romance: All of Our Ducks in a Row

Please be advised that this is not a post for the faint of heart, and especially for those under the age of 18.  Links in this post will take you away from this page, and to an Adult’s only store. If I were you, I’d make sure that there were no kids around!

Sometimes it seems like having a quiet romantic evening with the kids out of the house is a dream. Actually we have quiet weekends twice a month. Well you could call them quiet.

For all the planning that I’ve made for the past month…er 6 months, for a nice romantic dinner followed by a walk on the beach  and maybe more once we get back to our room…well it hasn’t happened. When we have weekends alone, it seems like we spend more time with adults, which means we are up later and way more tired than we were when we were getting up at 6am to get the kids to school.

This weekend I realized that having all of our kids under one roof gives us peace of mind. Well and a piece of…well anyways we are more “romantic.” We always end up in bed earlier, the adult friends normally leave earlier, and the trips to visit others are cut shorter.

So yeah, it seems that having 4 or 5 kids in the house means that we could be working on #6 a little more.

Do you have any tips for having more fun while the kids are home? Is there anything off limits? I mean I know for us, it means no running around nekkid…not that it happens very much anyways ;)

I’d love to hear from my readers on this! That means you need to comment!

Its been 2 weeks

In 2 weeks we still don’t have a routine, and my husband just doesn’t seem to be settled in yet. Or maybe its me. As for my dare to kiss daily…well…its not been 100%. In fact there have been days that I’m not sure that I wanted him at home. Its taking some getting used to for sure.

My goal for the next 2 weeks is to be patient. Patience is a virtue. At least that’s what they say. I have some mental block that I know is stress related, so maybe some time outdoors with the kids and flirting with  my husband will help this weekend.

When is the last time you flirted with your husband? I try to do it often, but it just doesn’t always get me where I’m going if you know what I mean. Now to just get him to start flirting with me. Can a little birdie get that in his head please?

I have a few things up my sleeve for the future, with a little help from my sponsor. I can’t wait to try some really cool items out. Most likely we’ll just start out with something nice and slow like massage oils, but for now we’ll start with flirting and kissing. yeah…I’m dreaming right?! lol! It could happen.

Until next time…
