Could You be an Eli?

In the past few days I’ve watched The Book of Eli at least 4 times at least in part.

First off if you haven’t seen it, rent it, buy it something! lol

Secondly, if you haven’t you may want to skip the rest of this post until you have, but come back and read it later.

Spoiler Alert!!!

Now I’m assuming that you’ve seen the move, right? Ok, good. We can now proceed.

I joined the Bible in 90 Days  read along so that I could read the Bible. I basically didn’t have anything else on hand that I wanted to read, or hadn’t read at least twice already. Shame on me, right?!

Of course I’ve known for a while why I should be reading the bible, but even as a kid I had trouble memorizing anything. One summer we got prizes daily for reciting scripture. To this day there’s only 1 verse that I can recite, yet at one time I could recite the entire chapter 2nd chapter of Luke. Well I never tried otherwise, you had to bribe me. I was literally paid like 50.00 or something to recite all of the books of the Bible. My mom basically made me or I would have never done it.

I have always hated doing things that people made me do.  I’m a rebel of sorts, and like to break the rules…but quietly most of the time so no one knows! lol

I’ve rebelled against reading the Bible for so many reasons. I’ve rebelled even more so about memorizing verses, or passages.

After watching The Book of Eli one more time tonight, I realized that at this moment, I could never do what he did. Yes, I think that I could walk for 30 years across the country to deliver a book, because my faith is that strong. But I could never recite an entire book of the bible now, not even a chapter anymore.

Eli hid the word in his heart! He kept Carnagie from taking it away from him, although he did get the book. Eli had God’s word in his heart!

Wow!

I want to be like Eli!

My first step is to complete this Bible in 90 Days challenge!

My Plan of action:

  • Pray about my commitment
  • Keep my Bible or iPhone  handy to read.
  • Find someone who will hold me accountable daily (are you interested?!)
  • Read, READ, Read
  • Make an appointment with God daily.

I know that I can do this, please keep me in your thoughts and prayers, and poke me constantly to remind me to read!

Open Sky Shop Opening in…

I’m very excited about my shop opening soon! Open Sky will allow me to recommend products to you that I find, and test out, then right on my blog where I share all of the goodness, you will be able to add that item to your cart. It’s gonna be pretty cool, if I do say so myself.

I already have one product in hand to share with you, and its pretty cool if I do say so myself!

OpenSky is a cool place that combines a lot of Mom and Pop type stores, and individuals with great products that you’d not normally see in stores. They’ve brought all of these products together right here, isn’t that cool?

If you are at Polka Spot Farm and want to add a product to your shopping cart you can do that here, then go over to another person’s blog and add something else. Isn’t that just the coolest?!

Be sure to keep checking the countdown in my sidebar and watch out for great new products in the future!

Yes we do get a profit share off of whatever you buy, but its not like its enough to buy a car or anything its about enough to buy a Happy Meal from McDonalds. So if you see a product that you like, buy it and help the little people out (yep little people around here like McDonalds a lot!)

Giveaway: Hard Lotion Bug Bar

Winner has been Announced!!

A while back I noticed an ad on another blog for Hard Lotion bars. Needless to say my hands were dry, my nails were chipping and I had to click on it.

Since that very moment I’ve been sold!

I contacted Renee from MadeOn Hard Lotion and she agreed to help me out by sending out 2 of her products. Now the product that I was intending to review was the basic Hard Lotion Bar, but something happened.

We went to the river a couple nights after receiving the package from Renee and boy was I glad. I used the Bug Bar on my left arm my legs and my face and neck before I left.

Let me just say this: Bugs. Love. Me.

I used my husband’s bug spray that uses Deet, on my right arm. With Blackberry in hand I updated my Facebook status as the night went on.

Guess what?! The Bug Bar kept me from being toted away by mosquitoes, and not only did it work I didn’t have to reapply  it for 8 hours! My right arm was itching 2 hours earlier, as so was everyone else on the sandbar that night.

The next great thing is that it isn’t sticky, it smells great especially for bug repellent and it made my skin feel wonderful! You can even see my testimony on her site.

This all natural bug repellent made with bee’s wax comes in bar form. It looks almost like a bar of soap. It magically melts when you rub your hands across it, like if you were sudsing up with a bar of soap. It doesn’t melt in heat, I kept mine in my bag while camping on the Tombigbee River in the middle of June..that’s south Alabama peeps!

So, if you are camping this summer, going outdoors this summer, and especially if bugs like you as much as they like me you will want to try out this product. Its certainly the best thing that I’ve found on the market today.

Renee graciously offered our readers a great package. If you win you will recieve:

  • 1 Family size Bug Block
  • 1 pocket size Beesilk
  • 1 lip balm

Entry Rules (please leave a comment for each entry):

  • Go to MadeOn Hard Lotion Bars and tell me what product you want to try. (mandatory entry)
  • Subscribe to Polka Spot Farm

**EDIT : This giveaway is for U. S. and Canada**

What Simple Living Means

When I started Polka Spot Farm, I aspired for it to be a Simple Living Blog. I may have strayed from that it seems, but in my eyes I’m learning to live a simple life.

Yep, I did get and iPhone 4. I love technology, and I don’t mind paying a little extra for the convenience. For me, my phone simplify my life by taking a planner, address book and so much more out of my purse and off of my desk.apron garden

Someone may say, “Christi, you don’t even dry your clothes on the line!” Well no, a lot of the times I don’t dry my clothes on the line. In the end it saves me money because my family uses less allergy medication when my things are dried in the dryer. With a high efficiency washer, it helps a lot in the drying costs and energy consumed.

Simple Living is more than doing everything by hand, to me its like the ergonomics of living. If its not going to make your life less complex, then why should you do it?

I’ve learned a lot about simple living, and everyone’s version is different.

  • I’ve made my own dishwasher detergent
  • I’ve made my own cleaning supplies
  • I’ve learned to cook bacon and it come out less greasy than when I used paper towels.
  • I make my own dish cloths
  • I’ve learned to preserve my clothes with an apron
  • I’ve learned that homemade bread is great, but I still love my store bought bread for PB&J
  • I’ve found recipes for things I thought I’d never make from scratch, and get excited every time one works better than the store bought version.

Do you live a simple life? Do you want to live a more simple life?

Come Join Polka Spot Farm on Blog Frog

I’ve created a new forum on Blog Frog and would love it if you were to join me! So far we already have 50 in our community, isn’t that great?

I’ve just created a new topic for discussion on my upcoming Stay At Home Summer Camp series, please go check it out and reply.

The best thing about communities like Blog Frog is that you get to tell me what you think, and share your great ideas!

My First Not Me

I’ve thought about joining Not Me Monday for well over a year now, but Menu Plan Monday always got in the way. Now that I’m posting my menu over at Family Foodies, I can write Not Me Monday! Yippee! This is way more fun anyways…well maybe! lol

Mckmama- Not Me Monday

I’m going to give you 3 short stories or scenarios, pick which one you think really happened.

1. I didn’t pull my step son’s way too big hand me down shorts way up on his chest this weekend, tie a towel around his neck as a cape and coach him into pretending that he was a super hero (running around with his hand in the air like he was flying.) And no, that step kid did not enjoy it even if he is 9 years old and way too young for capes!

2. After being mad at my husband for several days, I never would have slapped him in the face, only to miss the mosquito that was devouring him.

3. There was no way in the world that I played dress up with the girls on Saturday, put makeup on them and myself so as to look like baby dolls. I would never do that sort of thing, because pink hair is so not me!

So now, tell me what’s true or rather what’s not me!

Bible in 90 Days

I’ve joined a challenge where we all read the Bible in 90 days, yep the entire thing. I was almost finished with my book and was looking for something new and came by this challenge. My husband is going to be joining me on this journey also. I’ll update on my progress as I go along. If you would like to join run over to Mom’s Toolbox and catch up with us!

Now I’m off to bed so that I can finish Day 1 and get a start on Day 2.

Family Foodies and more!

I have a new gig!

Well I’ve been blogging at Family Foodies for about 2 months now, but in a couple weeks if all goes well I’ll be the new editor! Yippee!

What does this mean for Polka Spot Farm? Well instead of posting foodie type posts here like my Menu for Menu Plan Monday, it will be moved to Family Foodies. All of my old recipes and menus will stay here on this blog, but a lot of the new things will go to Family Foodies. I will be concentrating more on homemaking here at Polka Spot Farm, like I had originally intended.

Eat Sweat Lose

If you’ve missed it, I’m also blogging at Eat Sweat Lose with a great chick named Heather. This blog is about our weight loss journey. Check us out on Tuesday and Thursdays for our weigh-in’s. I know that all of the great food we had this weekend has me at a gain instead of a loss…but lets just see what the scale says for me on Tuesday’s

I’m also still blogging monthly at Sensational Divas Review. This group is full of ladies that I’m very close to, and most of them have great personal blogs.

When its all written out like this, I seem kind of busy don’t I?! That’s 4 blogs so far…what’s going to be next?! Just keep reading to see!

I hope that you will join me in my new ventures and leave lots of comments! lol I’ll be happy to see some familiar faces over at these other blogs.
