Poo Free Hair, is it for you?

I’ve been poo free for a while now. Um no, not ‘poo’ but shampoo! I know it sounds nuts, but I don’t use shampoo! Well I do, but more on that later.

I keep a cup of baking soda in the shower. After my hair is wet, I put a liberal amount on my fingers and work it through my hair. rinse it out making sure that I get it out of my ears. Well that’s it.

My hair is softer, shinier, fuller (and I have seriously straight flat hair and previously bought lots of expensive stuff to keep it from being that way). If I’m having a day of oily hair (that time of the month) it works better than anything else I’ve ever tried.

I thought that if I used too much it would dry my hair out and it would feel like straw, but never!

It’s cheap!

So are there any con’s you may ask? Well yeah, there are. The only thing that I miss is having a scent in my hair. So I do keep some shampoo in the house for date night, but seriously clean hair smells nice too. The other con that I have, is finding a way to keep the girls out of it. This weekend they washed their hair with it also, and guess what…their hair looked great!

  1. In the past I have used my shampoo and baking soda to make a paste and strip my hair of gunk. I absolutely loved the title. WTG Christi!

  2. That's cool! I'll have to try that, thanks for sharing!

I've been poo free going on about 3 weeks now, this is my 2nd go at it. The first time the baking soda dried my hair out WAY too much. This time I've learned that the trick is finding the right balance for you. For me that means about 1 tsp to 1/2 Tbsp of baking soda every other day, followed by an apple cider vinegar rinse (dilute 1 Tbsp vinegar in a cup of water). Much nicer and I haven't needed any product to give my fine hair a boost since I started this.

  4. I have to give this a go…got any suggestions for severely dry scalp?

I would start out with a smaller amount of baking soda, then do the apple cider vinegar rinse. Do you have psoriasis? Its common for that be on your scalp. Have a doctor check it out so you know what you are dealing with, but apple cider vinegar is really good for psoriasis (it may sting a little, but its worth it once it starts clearing up)

try it for a few weeks and let me know how it works for you.

I've been poo free for… ummm…. 4 years??? It's great! Once you get the right ratio that is. I've been able to stretch my washings much further too. I do on occasion use a sulfate free shampoo but that's rare. I really don't see myself ever going back to my old ways. It even works well with dreadlocks (bout a year with them, now)

    Hooray for baking soda!
