Menu Plan Monday – Thanksgiving!
This week is gonna be a tough one it looks like, but I’m trying to plan a lot of things that I normally wouldn’t like breakfast and snacks. We will have an indefinite amount of kids on any given day of the week, along with Thanksgiving at both of our mother’s homes on Thursday and hopefully we will finally finish moving Scott from his apartment. Scott is still not working, please keep our family in your prayers. There have been 3 losses and the loss of his job, we can use all of the prayer that we can get at the moment. Christmas is going to be about family this year more than ever.
I’ll stop rambling and get on to the good stuff. I’m naming my days but really it doesn’t always go that way, sometimes Monday’s menu is cooked on Friday. We never know around here! lol Oh and don’t forget to check out the deal I found on the Kitchen Aid Mixer that’s NOT a get out of the house in the cold on Friday deal.
Monday: Hamburgers with Homemade Buns and fries.
Tuesday: Vegetable beef soup.
Wednesday: Chicken and Dumplings
Thursday (only what I’m cooking): Turtle Cheesecake Pie, Scott’s Mac and Cheese, Turkey cupcakes from Hello, Cupcake!: Irresistibly Playful Creations Anyone Can Make
Friday: Leftovers made into Turkey Pot Pie
Saturday: Any leftovers from the week, along with sandwiches.
Sunday: Scott’s Beef Roast, mashed potatoes, green beans and um more Mac and Cheese!

Beat Black Friday Deal – Kitchen Aid mixer $229.99
Kitchen Aid 5qt Artesian Mixer is a great mixer, and I’ve been looking around for one for quite some time. This morning I talked my mom into getting me one for my birthday and Christmas as a combined gift. My old mixer has bit the dust, and its really hard to do holiday baking without one.
I found out that Kohl’s has a great deal on the Kitchen Aid 5qt Artesian Mixer . The deal basically brings the price from 300.00 down to $225.00. Sears is also advertising, but just look over that deal for now, ok!
Anyways in my research, I found that Amazon’s deal is the best, because I can order it today and no running around before daylight in the freezing cold on Friday morning! yay me!
The only draw back is that you have to get white, but I can deal with white and I’m sure that you can if you really want one of these babies!
Here’s the breakdown:

Bloggest Loser Update #8

On Tuesday I drove through what was left of Tropical Storm Ida, and saw the doctor. I talked to the nurses and the doctor, then went to have some bloodwork done and an EKG. All in all everything was ok. My cholesterol was up, but not by much. The doctor prescribed some meds and a well balanced 1200 calorie diet.
I came home and studied the diet. Its not too hard really, but I really haven’t been counting calories. I’ve learned a lot about portions and what I should be eating. I’ve been very surprised that this new way of eating has been quite satisfying, which I would have never dreamed of being possible. I still need to tweak a few things as I go of course, because of my blood sugar dropping out in the afternoon. Otherwise I think I’m on the right track.
I’ve lost a few pounds already to add to the few that I had already lost, then yesterday I had a stomach bug. Or at least that’s the only thing I know it could have been, I was nauseated for most of the day and night. Its almost that time of the month and I went up a pound over the weekend. I guess that’s what happens right? I can’t wait to see how I do with this diet.
As for all of my Bloggest Loser buddies, I can’t wait to see how you all did!
Menu Plan Monday, Getting a little Healthier
As most of you know, I’m still participating in the Bloggest Loser contest. I’ve lost a little weight and I’m now on a diet prescribed by my Physician. I can still have just about what I want, but as he says my portions should be one third less than normal. That part has been no problem at all! Yay me! Scott is home these days, so I need to keep us all on a healthier diet without everyone noticing. So here are a few things I’ll be trying this week.
Monday: Chicken Noodle Soup
Tuesday: Vegetable Beef Soup (requested by ds12)
Wednesday: Grilled Chicken Salads
Thursday: Pork Tenderloin, steamed veggies
Friday: Cornish Hens, green beans and oven baked potatoes
For more menus run over to Orgjunkie.
Thankful for meeting Maw
I’m so thankful that I got to meet Scott’s grandmother back in the summer. The time I’ve spent in her home has made me feel like a part of her family already. To know that she put all of her faith in God on her worst days inspired me. Even when she was not talking in her right mind (to us) she was talking to the Lord. There were times where she would talk to people that had already passed on, or children that we could not see. She was concerned for them. She always put others first. The love that she instilled in all of those in her family is such a legacy that I strive to leave.
Maw was such a strong woman. She was the cornerstone of her family, and her community. In the few short months that I knew her, she really made an impact on my life. I’m so thankful that she came into my life, if even for such a short time.
My Family
I’m very thankful for my family, even if its like a 3 ring circus sometimes!

Thankful for handmade quilts
After a long, cold and wet day Scott brought me my handmade quilt to cuddle up on the couch and search for more wedding ideas. I’m so thankful for the comfy handmade quilts in my life.
Clutter Free Gift Ideas
The holidays are coming up, and while I’m decluttering I’m almost dreading the thought of presents all over the house on December 26th. With 5 kids and all of the family and school parties, there will be so many things in this house! Ack! Will I be back in the same shape? Not if everyone goes with my clutter free gift ideas.
For something to be clutter free and a great gift, it must be something that that person loves and is consumable and does not take up any space. Preferably it will be something that will not be thrown away also, but you must throw part of it away please make it recycle worthy.
So here is an unfinished list of ideas that I’ve come up with over the years.
- Movie Tickets
- Family passes to the local zoo or amusement park
- Hotel room for your favorite couple
- Bake, and get tins or platters from the local thrift store that can be reused.
- Coupons for a home cooked meal, lunch date, post holiday clean up.
- iTunes ore other gift cards.
- Money
Now for the fun part. Choose creative ways to present your presents. One thing that I’ve always wanted to do for the kids is to give them each an envelope for each month. They can’t open them until that month. Get a variety of things for the cards such as a few dollars in one for the dollar store or the Dollar Tree, movie ticket, date plan for parent or grandparent and child, ticket to the amusement parks and so on. To me that’s the gift that keeps on giving.
For more ideas check out WFMW.
Thankful during Ida
I’m thankful that we have the over abundance of news sources, unlike many years ago. The technology today means that I know what to expect and prepare my family for. I’m thankful that we have a very sturdy and storm weathering home. We are very thankful for what God has given us, and is standing by our sides through all of the storms of life.
