8 Ways to Make a Hotel Feel Like a Home Away From Home

Another week away from home. This time its not in a beach hose, but in a corporate hotel. This is a little better than a regular hotel because there is a small kitchenette here. We still have housekeeping, but they only come by for towels and to make up beds on Tuesdays and a little light cleaning on Thursdays. Housekeeping. does. not. do. dishes.

First: Unpack! Don’t just unpack your clothes, hang them up and put them away. Put your socks in the dresser, and your toothbrush by the sink.

Second: Put your laptop out on the desk, with all of your office essentials there too. Keep these things away from the bed!

Third: Treat your bed as a sanctuary, not the dining room table or office.

Fourth: If you have the luxury of a kitchenette, use it. Lets face it, eating out is expensive and there’s nothing like a home cooked meal. If you don’t have everything that you need, ask at the front desk (pots and pans mainly). If you travel a lot, pack essential spices. Right now I’m looking for a travel spice “kit” I may make my own, and if I do, I will let you know.

Fifth: Keep things tidy. Make up your bed, get a hamper for your dirty clothes, and throw away the trash. We do this at home, why would u stop while u are staying away from home?

Sixth: Use the same routines you would at home. If you usually do laundry on Wednesday, do it at the hotel also. Most hotels that I’ve been to lately have laundry facilities, if they don’t find out at the front desk where you can drop off your laundry or do it yourself. No one likes dirties lying around the house or hotel.

Seventh: If you have a fridge, add some art from home. Take along some pictures of your family, I just set out my mini laptop with a sideshow on it so that when I look up, my loved ones are there smiling back at me.

Eighth: They don’t make travel candles for nothing. Add a candle or two to your hotel room for a bit of romance, or just to get that odd smell out of the room! You can get candles just about anywhere these days, just use caution as always.

Great ideas! I do a lot of that when traveling, especially unpacking as soon as I get in. I remember just seeing this Instructable for a travel spice kit – it may be just what you need! http://www.instructables.com/id/Ultra-Lightweight...
    Safe travels.

These are fabulous tips! I love it when you can find a hotel with a little kitchenette or at least a microwave and a fridge. It saves so much money!
